Ogden Federal Retirement FAQs

Do federal employees at Hill AFB or the IRS Ogden campus qualify for FERS retirement?

Yes. Whether you are a civilian employee at Hill Air Force Base, a tax examiner at the IRS Ogden Submission Processing Campus, or a DFAS analyst, FERS covers you the same way. Your pension is based on years of creditable service and your high-3 average salary. Our workshops walk through the math for both GS and wage grade employees.

What is the FERS supplement and can Hill AFB civilian employees receive it?

The FERS supplement bridges the gap between your retirement date and age 62, when Social Security kicks in. If you retire before 62 with immediate eligibility (MRA plus 30 years, or age 60 with 20 years), you qualify. The supplement is roughly equal to the Social Security benefit you earned while a FERS employee. It ends at 62 regardless of whether you claim Social Security.

I work for the Forest Service Intermountain Region in Ogden. How does seasonal service count toward FERS?

Seasonal service counts toward creditable service only for the periods you were actually in pay status. If you worked 6 months per year for 10 years, that may count as approximately 5 years of creditable service, not 10. This distinction can significantly affect your annuity calculation. Bring your SF-50 history to any of our workshops and our team can help you estimate your actual creditable years.

How does TSP work for DFAS employees in Ogden?

DFAS employees in Ogden contribute to TSP the same way as all FERS employees. You receive a 1% automatic agency contribution and agency matching up to 4% of your salary, for a total potential agency contribution of 5%. Vesting on the 1% automatic contribution requires 3 years of federal service. Our TSP workshop covers fund selection, contribution limits, and how to coordinate TSP withdrawals with your FERS annuity.

Are there in-person FERS workshops near Ogden?

PlanWell offers free virtual workshops, meaning Ogden and Weber County federal employees attend via Zoom without driving to Salt Lake City. Sessions run 3 hours and include a live Q&A where CFP professionals answer questions specific to your agency and situation.
